To Friends & Colleagues of Nancy Hopping,

It is with great sadness that I must report the death of Anne Louise “Nancy” Hopping, who passed on December 18th, 2025 after a years-long battle with a rare and aggressive cancer. Apologies if this information comes as a complete shock; Nancy did not wish to share her diagnosis widely because she didn’t want pity.

During the summer of 2023 Nancy was diagnosed with Adrenocortical Carcinoma and given a life expectancy of one to three months. She opted to turn that into two-and-a-half years where - I hope - the good days outnumbered the bad by a wide margin. Once chemotherapy and immunotherapy were no longer effective, Nancy decided to stop treatment and enter home hospice care. She did not suffer or linger for long; last Saturday she spent the day Christmas shopping and having lunch with her granddaughter. By Monday, her condition had finally begun to deteriorate and the disease progressed rapidly. On Thursday afternoon, Nancy passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends at her home in Hawai’i, just as the sun set over the Pacific.

A memorial service will be held in Tucson AZ, with dates and details to be determined. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your local public television or radio station. Nancy worked for TRAC Media Services for 30 years and continued her support for public media after retirement as a sustaining member of Hawai’i Public Radio. It would mean the world to her to know that her passion and her legacy continues on.

There is absolutely no way I could make a complete list of all the people in public media whom Nancy considered a friend, therefore I haven’t even tried. As a favor to me, please forward this to anyone you may know would wish to be notified.

Thank you and hold your loved ones close during this holiday season,
